StarCraft II demo launches (StarCraft II)

It’s not supposed to be this way. Usually, game demos come before the final game releases, not after – and certainly not five months after launch. But that’s what Blizzard Entertainment did today with the release of the first demo for StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, the installment in the three-part RTS sequel.

The demo will give players a taste of StarCraft II’s singeplayer campaign with three missions. Although you won’t be able to challenge other players online, you will be able to play skirmish matches against the AI on a small set of maps. However, you will only be able to play as the terran.

You will not need an active internet connection or Battle.net account to play. However, you will need both if you want to play the full version of the game.

Despite the lack of a traditional singleplayer demo, StarCraft II sold over 1.5 million copies during the first 48 hours after it launched. That’s because it’s awesome. If you haven’t tried it, you can download the demo for StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty here.
