Remember all the rumors and
half-confirmations swirling around lately about Pokemon? That includes the reveal of a reveal earlier this week
that had many expecting a new iteration on this year’s Black and White games.
Now early word from the Japanese game convention Jump Fiesta has spread, and it
seems the game is one probably nobody predicted: Pokemon X Nobunaga’s Ambition.

Early pictures from the
floor of Jump Fiesta show the first art and screens for Pokemon X Nobunaga’s
Ambition, a crossover for the DS that links Koei’s niche (in the US) strategy
series with adorable pocket monsters. Early screens seem to indicate the game possibly
sticking to Nobunaga’s strategy-RPG roots, which is interesting as the Pokemon
series has never really taken on that specific genre. As you’ll see in the
other images, classic Pokemon like Mewtwo, Evee, and Jigglypuff are part of the
title, where they looked to be partnered with Koei’s versions of famous
generals from that period.
It’s coming out for the DS
at some point in 2012 for Japan, though we wonder if a game so aimed at Japanese
audiences like this one will ever come to America. Especially when you consider
that the DS is pretty much done as a viable platform these days and that the
last Nobunaga game came out in the US two years ago and few noticed.
Hopefully Nintendo will recognize the universal appeal of battling cute
monsters in feudal Japan and localize it.
