3DS sales in December broke Japanese sales record

Remember about six months ago
when it seemed like every news story was about another 3DS stumble? Now it
seems like a day can’t go by without news of the system’s crazy huge sales.
Today’s might be the most impressive yet, as it turns out that in Japan last
December the 3DS moved more units in one month than any other system in
recorded history.

The 3DS sold 1,492,931 units during that month,
topping any monthly sales figure released since Media Create began collecting
weekly Japanese sales data in 1997. The demand reached such heights no doubt
thanks to the combined crazy popularity of Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7,
and Monster Hunter 3G. Each of those games also sold more than a million copies
during the month, and for those counting, the PS Vita only sold 402,794 units
in December (though it only was out for less than half the month). Meanwhile,
Nintendo of America announced earlier this week that the 3DS sold 4 million total systems
in the US. Can Nintendo keep this momentum going?
